APM Terminals shares vision of “Terminal Eco-System” Concept at PEMA Amsterdam Meeting

News from PEMA AGM 2015:

At last month’s meeting, the best attended and most successful PEMA AGM to date, APM Terminals’ Head of Design and Automation, Alex Duca took to the stage to share the company’s vision of its Terminal Eco-System Concept. Mr. Duca suggested that by viewing a container terminal as a ‘holistic eco-system of interdependent functions and needs’, improvements in machinery and procedures can be designed into the system.

His presentation identified several challenges faced by the port industry and proposed integrating new technologies such as ‘Google-glass’ type windshields and sensors to help rise to these challenges. Mr. Duca recommended drawing from advances in other industries, praising the automobile and jet industries for successful standardisation efforts.
