Cavotec secures milestone order for 24 MoorMaster automated mooring systems

23.06.2011 – Global engineering group, Cavotec, has won an order to supply 24 MM200C automated mooring units, designed specifically for use in container port applications. Cavotec will manufacture, engineer, install and commission 24 MM200C units to be used on an exposed berth at a port in the Mediterranean Sea.

MoorMaster is a vacuum-based automated mooring technology that eliminates the need for conventional mooring lines.  Remote controlled vacuum pads are recessed in, or mounted on, the quayside, moor and release vessels in seconds. The technology dramatically improves safety and operational efficiency, and also enables ports to make infrastructure savings.

The system is becoming widely adopted having performed over 40,000 mooring operations, with 100 per cent safety record, at ferry, bulk handling, Ro-Ro, container and lock applications around the world.  This multi-million euro contract is one of the largest projects Cavotec has registered to date for the innovative mooring technology.

“The degree of automation and associated safety and productivity gains that MoorMaster offers represents a genuine step-change in mooring operations,” notes Patrick Rosenwald, Managing Director of Cavotec MoorMaster.

“This major project highlights the exceptional versatility of MoorMaster. In light of our recent successes with this technology in other applications such as bulk handling, I’m very pleased to see a new MoorMaster project with the container industry,” says Ottonel Popesco, Cavotec CEO.
