Konecranes to supply ten more RTG cranes to Indonesia
11.04.2011 – In February 2011, Konecranes received a repeat order for ten RTG (rubber tired gantry) cranes from Indonesian state-owned terminal operator PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero), (Pelindo 1). The cranes will be delivered to Belawan International Container Terminal, (BICT), which is owned by Pelindo 1.
The ten 8-wheel RTGs can stack six-plus-one containers high and six containers wide plus truck lane. The cranes have a lifting capacity of 40 tons. The recently ordered RTGs are technically very similar to the previous five Konecranes RTGs that BICT ordered last year and that are currently being delivered. When changing stack, the wheels rotate while the cranes turn. This feature lessens the wear of the rubber tires and the container yard compared to traditional solutions, consequently extending lifetime.
BICT is located in the city of Medan, at the west end of the Malacca strait, close to major world cargo routes and the Port of Singapore. The cranes will add to BICT’s existing fleet and improve container handling capacity at the terminal.
“We are very proud to receive this repeat order for additional eco-efficient RTG cranes from BICT,” says Thomas Gylling, responsible for container handling port crane sales in South East Asia.
Delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2012. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order.
