Ottonel Popesco Student Challenge by PEMA 2023 – Winner Announced
2023 marked the 9th year of the Student Challenge and posed the open question around:
“Innovative machine design concepts that increase machine efficiency and reduce GRG emissions in ports and terminals ”
A topic that is of major significance at this time in the Port and Terminal industry.
Delft University of Technology, Netherlands (represented by Michelle van Meijeren, Jasper Stoter, and Jorn Bijl – Under the guidance of Frederik Schulte) emerged victorious with their presentation on “Reducing Electricity Costs of Ship to Shore Container Cranes” which focussed on developing new operational policies to reduce the peak electricity demand of a cluster of ship to shore container cranes, in turn increasing the economically attractiveness of the cranes, while enabling local greenhouse gas emission reductions.
The winning students were presented their certificates and prize cheque on February 14th, 2024 by PEMA Board Member Lisette Stinis.
We would like to thank all 7 University teams that took part in this years’ challenge with their creative, dynamic and innovative ideas.
